Ingredients
Tap the ingredients you have on hand
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp active dry yeastmissing
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp softened butter
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- 1
In a large bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Add softened butter and knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- 3
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 4
Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 5
Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
- 6
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls with beaten egg if desired for a golden crust.
- 7
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm.
